Parallella now available from RS Components

The goal of the Parallella project is to democratize access to high performance computing and this is only possible if the whole world has the option to buy a Parallella board. Through the Kickstarter campaign and pre-orders Adapteva has shipped Parallella boards to over 2,000 customers in 75 countries but the logistical burden has been overwhelming.

I am extremely pleased to announce that we have signed up RS components as the international distributor for the Parallella computer. RS Components is the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products. With operations in 32 countries, RS Components offers around 500,000 products through the internet, catalogues and at trade counters to over one million customers, shipping around 44,000 parcels a day.

RS components has done an outstanding job distributing and supporting products like the Raspberry Pi single board computer and I have full confidence that they will do just as fine a job with the Parallella. This global distribution agreement marks an important milestone for Parallella. Thanks to this new partnership with RS components we will be able to reach more developers in more countries while providing a much better customer experience.

The first batch of Parallella boards is now available through the online RS components catalog. The product just recently arrived in the UK and it’s going to take some time before the Parallella propagates through the RS Components global distribution network. You can check for local availability by navigating to your country specific RS components site.

Sincerely,
Andreas Olofsson

  • I LOVE YOU PEOPLE. SO. MUCH.

I just ordered one through their Australian site and am so excited. It’ll be a belated birthday present and new frontier to explore. The site said it would take a few extra days for delivery (over the UK site) but that’s to be expected like you said. Thank you so much for this opportunity, your team is amazing.

Why are the prices on RS as translation form dollar symbol to gbp symbol? aka $99 does not equal £99, but that is what appears to be the case there!

  • Andy Yuen says:

It is just too difficult to buy boards from you guys for such a long time. I live in Australia. Went to the RS site. Nothing is there related to Parallella. I am giving up. I am considering other boards now.

  • Thank you. We love you to:-) Look forward to hearing about your adventures with the board.

  • The price is slightly higher than the US price due to shipping fees and logistics. The boards currently available are the high end ones. The $119 microserver shipping soon.

  • Sorry to hear that! I just checked on the RS AU site and the board seems to be available?? Can you check again.

  • Jeff says:

It looks like the AU prices are $204.95 for the desktop and $330.09 for the embedded. As always we ozies pay more for the same item.

  • Jeff S says:

I took a look on the RS Australia site and it is not easy to find. Searching for Parallela and Adapteva at their site does not find the product as it should. It isn’t in their Embedded Systems category as I would have expected it. It is in their Semiconductors > Semiconductor Development Kits > Processor & Microcontroller Development Kits category which is not an obvious path to find it. I only figured it out by hovering over the above link to the UK site, reading the link text and following the categories at the Australia site.

  • Andy Yuen says:

It is unfortunate. I just ordered 5 Odroid-XU3 Octa-core boards for my project before reading your reply. May as well because RS marked up 50% for the boards.

  • pmc says:

Great news! unfortunately here in Europe (France), RS sells the Parallella only to business, not to individuals. I went to the UK site, but before placing the order, there is that small note: only UK customers. Same in Belgium…

Any plans to distribute via Mouser ? I ordered numerous time with Mouser and to my experience they are absolutely outstanding.
(once I placed an order on Friday Dec 30 10PM local time and I received my package on the following Monday!!)

  • Nicolas Arsenault says:

The Parallella is not available in Canada yet. I was just wondering if there is a way to get an email when it’s available in my country.

  • Spreng0r says:

Couldn’t agree more! Is there an option to bring the board to private customers in Europe?

  • Agree 100% that this is very unfortunate. Until there is a permanent fix for this, please see the end of section 1 of the RS terms and conditions and decide what you put as a company name.

One problem thou… Seems RS does not include the image for those board so at first glace it would be a bit of suspicious… Try to get RS to upload the photos. 🙂

  • pmc says:

    Hi Andreas,

Thank you for your reply although I’m not sure what to make out of it. Here RS require a business ID number and that’s it (at least that’s what they told me).

Eventually I asked a friend to place the order for me from his business, so I got my board and I’ll take him for lunch next week.

Still that doesn’t solve the problem…

Anyway fantastic board, thanks a lot.

  • Andy Yuen says:

And those prices do not include GST either!

What about the PARALLELLA 64-CORE COMPUTER… I have been on the list for about 9-10 months……Also it is still a mystery ,to me, why CANONICAL ( UBUNTU ) are NOT SUPPORTING ADAPTEVA & PARALLELLA…. Ciao.. Dhan Hurley

Bought a board via RS UK, it arrived the next day. A visiting relative was impressed so I now have another on order. Thanks Adapteva.

  • hectorgarces says:

I have just received a parallella board (desktop version) un Spain. 🙂
Now I have to place the heatshink, play the examples, etc.

  • Pum says:

Intended to order through RS. First link to RS:UK. Not in stock, but backorder ships a week from now. But they don’t deliver to NL, so I switched to the NL site. Not in stock and backorder shipps THREE MONTHS FROM NOW. Do they ship them by mule? This sucks.

  • Marius Vlad says:

I think would be nice to specify, not Europe, but more like in the lines Mostly Europe. And even then I believe
that Mostly Europe is too much. I think you should change altogether to just UK. Makes no sense to lie, when
    the board is clearly unavailable.

To my knowledge RS ships only to business in France, Germany, Belgium.

  • Anonymous says:

What about Amazon international shipping service instead of RS???

  • Pum says:

    Explicitly states “not outside US”

  • mICHAL says:

It is not possible to buy Parallella in Poland, RS components need data valid only for companies
