HDMI Issue

We have the Kickstarter version of Parallella and used an SD card with the HDMI image downloaded from the quick start guide. It worked with the monitor once, but never again, and nothing we do seems to fix it. We have tried multiple cables, multiple monitors, multiple images which claim to have HDMI, and also tried changing bootargs to specify a supported monitor resolution. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
